It seems like Microsoft may soon kill the need to memorise passwords, at least on its Windows 10 S operating system. With the new Insider preview release, build 17093, the company is in the process of testing a feature that would negate the need to remember passwords. Users will have to download and connect the Authenticator app to log in.
“With the changes in this build, your Windows 10 S PC will automatically make your experience password-free. You will notice that if you have Windows Hello set up, you won’t see passwords anywhere in the Windows experience – not on the unlock screen nor in Sign-in options,” the company notes in its blog.
Besides the new authentication feature, the new build also brings a number of other additions. This includes a new design to the Game bar, that lets users toggle the microphone and camera, as well as edit the title of the Mixer stream directly from buttons in the Game bar. There is also the addition of a clock and the option to choose a theme. There are graphical improvements in the OS as well. Microsoft is expanding HDR video access to more users from Settings > Apps > Video playback. If the ‘Stream HDR video’ toggle can be switched on, the device can be calibrated for HDR videos. There is also a new experimentat calibration tool that lets users change the way HDR videos appear on their device. This allows users to find the a balance between details in dark and bright scenes. Further, there is a new graphics settings for Multi-GPU systems that gives users more control over graphics performance of apps.
The Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17093 for PC is available to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring and for those who have opted to Skip Ahead.
