Microsoft launches free Office apps for Windows 10
HIGHLIGHTS

Microsoft releases free Office apps for Windows 10 and reveals that Office suite ‘Office 2016’ will come later this year.

Microsoft has released touch friendly universal Office apps for Windows 10. These apps are now available for Windows 10 Technical Preview and are available as free download from the Store (beta) app. Word, Excel and Powerpoint preview are available as separate downloads. Microsoft has also assured that the same apps will be coming to tablets and phones running on Windows 10.

A few months back Microsoft announced while unveiling Windows 10 that it was working on universal apps which would work seamlessly on any screen size. Thus Microsoft is betting that these new Office apps will become the native apps across all its platforms.

All three apps are optimized for touch enabled devices and smaller screens. All apps come with a limited set of features suited for students and occasional Office users. These new Office apps will also let you collaborate with coworkers or friends in real time.

Later this year these new Office apps will come pre-installed in devices running Windows 10. In addition to this, Microsoft also announced that it is simultaneously working on the next version of its Office suite, ‘Office 2016’ which will coming later this year as well.
