Microsoft has unveiled a new compact desktop device, the Windows 365 Link, which is roughly the size of a Mac Mini. Windows 365 Link is the first Cloud PC device purpose-built by Microsoft to connect securely to Windows 365 in seconds. The new device comes with a unique twist: it doesn’t run a traditional local operating system. Instead, it streams Windows from the cloud, requiring an internet connection to function.
The Windows 365 Link is tailored for desk-based workers and shared workspaces, offering a highly responsive, cloud-powered experience. It’s compact, lightweight, and designed to maximise productivity with its highly responsive performance.
The device boasts impressive hardware features, including dual 4K monitor support, multiple USB ports, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3. Its local processing capabilities also ensure smooth video playback and high-quality video calls.
However, the biggest difference from traditional desktops is its reliance on cloud computing. Since it doesn’t store any local data or apps, it needs a stable internet connection to access and operate Windows.

Security is a top priority for the Windows 365 Link. The device features a locked-down operating system with no local data or administrator privileges, significantly reducing the risk of cyberattacks.
It also includes robust security measures like passwordless authentication through Microsoft Entra ID, default security baseline policies, and built-in features such as Secure Boot, Trusted Platform Module, and BitLocker encryption.
IT professionals will appreciate the simplified management offered by Windows 365 Link. It integrates seamlessly with Microsoft Intune, allowing IT teams to manage it alongside other PCs using familiar tools and policies.
On the sustainability front, the device is built with recycled materials, has energy-efficient components, and features a fanless design for durability and lower energy consumption, aligning with modern eco-friendly goals.
The Windows 365 Link will be available for purchase in select markets from April 2025, priced at $349. A preview program is open until December 15, 2024, for businesses in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.
