Micromax starts manufacturing mobile phones at its Uttarkhand facility in India

Micromax has already been manufacturing all its tablets from the Rudraprayag facility. Now the mobile phone production is in initial stages at the facility.

Micromax Informatics Ltd. has started manufacturing its devices at its Rudraprayag facility in Uttarakhand. A Micromax spokesperson has confirmed that the company is manufacturing all its tablets at this facility while mobile phone production is still at an initial stage.

The spokesperson said, “Micromax has manufacturing plant in Rudraprayag where it manufactures LED and tablets. The company started manufacturing mobile phones couple of months back.”

According to industry data, Micromax is the second biggest player both in mobile and tablet PC market in India. According to IDC, the company has a 13% market share in the total mobile phone segment and 16% in the smartphone market in the last quarter of 2013 and trails only behind Samsung in India. Micromax has a 8.9% market share in the Indian tablet PC segment which was 4.14 million units in 2013. Micromax targets to double its revenue to $1 billion by the end of financial year 2013-14. The company declined to comment on the latest revenue numbers.

Micromax launched its Canvas Doodle 3 for Rs 8500 earlier this week. The Micromax Canvas Doodle 3 has a 6-inch display with 480×854 pixels resolution. The phablet runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box and has a 1.3 GHz dual-core processor coupled with 512MB of RAM. In terms of connectivity the smartphone supports dual-SIM (GSM GSM) with dual standby, 3G, Bluetooth, WiFi and GPRS/EDGE. It also packs a 2500 mAh battery that delivers 9 hours of talk time and 260 hours of standby time as claimed by the company. The smartphone will be available across retailers from April 25th.
