Micromax has officially announced the launch of its Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich-based Funbook Pro tablet PC in India. Sporting a larger 10.1-inch display, the Funbook Pro is said to be an improved version of the original Funbook tablet, which was launched earlier this year. The Funbook Pro has been priced at Rs. 9,999.
The Micromax Funbook Pro recently went up for grabs via online shopping website Snapdeal. Touted as the ‘edutainment device’, the Funbook Pro is powered by a Cortex A8 1.2GHz processor. It has 1GB of RAM, and a 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen with 1024 x 600 pixels resolution.
Other specs of the Funbook Pro include a VGA front facing camera, 8GB built-in storage and microSD card slot that supports storage up to 32GB. For connectivity, the device supports 3G via USB, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, and USB 2.0. It also has a HDMI port. The device comes with a massive 5,600 mAh battery.
The Funbook Pro comes pre-loaded with various apps such as Zip, Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, Text Editor, YouTube and more.
Micromax is also offering a Tata Docomo Photon data card along with Funbook Pro tablet. It’s notable that activation and delivery of Tata Docomo Photon postpaid connection will be available via Tata Teleservices stores/call centre at a fee of Rs. 500 for processing and handling, which is to be borne by the customer. Also, the Photon data card is available in circles only where Tata Docomo Photon Plus Services are available. To know more about the offer, click here.
Announcing the launch of the Funbook Pro, CEO Micromax Informatics Ltd. Deepak Mehrotra says, “Today’s youth are tech savvy, but at the same time restless; they want to buy and experience new innovations that make their life easier but in a matter of a few clicks. Inspired by the huge response for 7″ Funbook on Snapdeal, we are glad to continue this relationship with them for the new 10″ Funbook Pro to provide a simpler way to the restless young heads for owning the device.”
Micromax, which has launched a slew of budget Android smartphones in India, heated up the budget tablet space with the Funbook’s launch earlier this year. Priced at Rs. 6,499, the Funbook is amongst the first few devices to come with Android v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich straight out of the box. The device has a powerful 1.2GHz processor and supported 1080p MP4 playback. To know more about the device, read our detailed review.
The budget tablet market is definitely pretty crowded in India, with more new manufacturers such as Zen Mobile and Karbonn joining the bandwagon. Undoubtedly, the Funbook Pro is set to square off against some serious competition. However, the device’s larger screen and other improved features may be enough to help the device claim its stake for itself in the country’s burgeoning budget tablet market.
