Desktop Mice

Logitech MX Revolution

Specifications
Laser sensor; document flip-wheel; fly-wheel scroll; dedicated search button; Li-ion battery; battery indicator; USB receiver; desktop cradle

Our Verdict
Two years ago, Logitech redefined the mouse by launching the first laser-sight mouse, the MX-1000. With the MX Revolution, Logitech ups the ante by integrating some unique features.

First, this mouse has two scroll wheels-one placed as usual, and the other at the thumb. The regular scroll wheel offers two modes of operation: free-wheel like, and the normal line-by-line. In free-wheel mode, you can zoom through long pages. The Set-Point software is smart enough to understand when to activate free-wheel mode by judging the flick force. The second wheel acts like an [Alt] [Tab] button. The Logitech MX Revolution is quite simply the best desktop mouse we’ve come across!

Runner-Up: Razer Pro V1.6

Gaming Mice

Microsoft Habu

Specifications
400 to 2000 dpi on-the-fly resolution change; 1000 MHz polling; can track true till 20G acceleration; 7080 frames per second tracking

Our Verdict
The Habu is Microsoft’s vision of a gaming mouse. It blends two distinct features from two different companies: the ergonomic design is taken from the older IntelliMouse, and is mated with razor-sharp precision from Razer Inc. Going by Razer’s tradition of naming its mice after species of snakes, the Habu is named after a species in Japan.
The other contenders for the title of “Best Gaming Mouse” were the Logitech G5 and the Razer Copperhead.

Microsoft ensured that the best of both worlds made it to their new gaming mouse. We found the Habu the most comfortable of all three, and the tracking was spot-on thanks to the Razer laser engine.

Runner-Up: Logitech G5
