Meta to launch new AI chatbot this week for young users: Report
Meta is reportedly planning to launch a generative AI chatbot for young users.
This chatbot is expected to be announced this week at Meta Connect event.
Meta Connect is scheduled for September 27. It will be a two-day virtual event focused on AI and virtual, mixed and augmented realities.
Meta is reportedly planning to launch a generative AI chatbot, called ‘Gen AI Personas’ internally, for young users. This chatbot is expected to be announced this week.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the new AI chatbot is expected to launch at the company’s Meta Connect event this week. The chatbot will likely come in multiple “personas” in order to engage young users, reports The Verge.

According to the internal chats the Journal viewed, the company has tested a “sassy robot” persona which is inspired by Bender from Futurama and an overly curious “Alvin the Alien”. One worker was even concerned that Alvin the Alien might make people think the bot was collecting their personal info.

Meta is expected to create “dozens” of these bots. Also, the company has even worked on a chatbot creation tool which will likely enable celebrities to make their own chatbots for their fans.
The Journal also quoted Meghana Dhar, a former executive at Snap and Instagram, saying chatbots don’t “scream Gen Z to me, but definitely Gen Z is much more comfortable” with newer technologies. As with all new products, she continued, Meta’s objective with the chatbots is to keep them engaged for a long period of time so that it will have “increased opportunity to serve them ads.”
Meta is also reportedly planning to train a new large language model early in 2024 which will likely be as powerful as OpenAI’s latest chatbot GPT-4, the model that powers ChatGPT and Bing.
The company will showcase more information about its metaverse concept and the new Quest 3 headset at Meta Connect.
Meta is all set to host this year’s ‘Meta Connect’ on September 27. It will be a two-day virtual event focused on AI and virtual, mixed and augmented realities.
