Meta has announced that it is opening up the operating system powering its Meta Quest devices– Meta Horizon OS– to third-party hardware makers, giving more choice to consumers and a larger ecosystem for developers to build for. Also, the company has announced that it has partnered with Xbox to create a limited-edition Meta Quest.

Asus’s Republic of Gamers is using its expertise as a leader in gaming solutions to develop an all-new performance gaming headset.
On the other hand, Lenovo will leverage its expertise gained from co-designing the Oculus Rift S and its extensive engineering background in creating devices like the ThinkPad laptop series to develop mixed reality devices tailored for productivity, learning, and entertainment.
Last year, Xbox and Meta teamed up to bring Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) to Meta Quest, letting people play Xbox games on a large 2D virtual screen in mixed reality. Now, Meta has announced that it is working again with Xbox to create a limited-edition Meta Quest. This limited edition Meta Quest will be “inspired by Xbox.”
Meta further announced that all of these devices will benefit from the company’s long-term collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, which builds the Snapdragon processors that are tightly integrated with Meta’s software and hardware stacks.
“Qualcomm Technologies’ latest Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 Platform, launched with Meta Quest 3, delivered breakthrough performance that pushed the boundaries of what’s possible in mixed reality. Companies building hardware for this new ecosystem can also leverage the benefits of these chipsets and custom software enhancements,” the company said.
