On February 28th, LG’s top management, including CEO William Cho and Park Hyoung-sei, president of the Home Entertainment Company, met with Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg at LG Twin Towers in Yeouido, Seoul.
The two-hour session saw discussions concerning business strategies and explored considerations for the development of next-generation XR devices. During the meeting, Cho, while testing the Meta Quest 3 headset and Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, showed great interest in Meta’s advanced technology demonstrations, particularly focusing on Meta’s large language models and its potential for on-device AI integration.
LG foresees that by integrating Meta’s platform with its own content and service capabilities from its TV business, a unique ecosystem can be established in the XR domain, which represents one of the company’s new business areas.
Also, according to LG, the fusion of Meta’s diverse core technological elements with LG’s advanced product and quality capabilities holds the potential for substantial synergies in the development of next-generation XR devices.
XR devices are hailed as the next generation of personal devices, poised to overcome the limitations of mobile screens in terms of immersion and intuitiveness. Wearable devices hold the potential to significantly enhance customer interactions. Cho has previously stated, “We see opportunities for next-gen personal devices in the XR business arena.”
