Things took a turn when the scammers asked her to invest money in a company, claiming that she would make a significant profit. Trusting the offer, Deepika transferred a total of Rs 1.75 lakh to the account provided by the scammers. However, when she tried to withdraw the supposed earnings, the fraudsters told her that she needed to deposit more money to avoid losing everything. That’s when Deepika realised she had been scammed.
She immediately contacted the cyber cell and the local police station to report the incident.
This incident highlights the risks of online scams that are becoming increasingly common, especially with the rise of remote work opportunities. If you receive unsolicited offers for work-from-home jobs that sound too good to be true, it’s important to remain cautious.

Tips to protect yourself from such scams
- Verify the company: Always research the company and the job offer thoroughly before making any commitments.
- Avoid upfront payments: Legitimate companies do not ask for payments to secure a job.
- Be wary of high returns: If the offer promises unrealistic returns, it’s likely a scam.
- Use secure communication channels: Stick to official websites and verified platforms for job applications and inquiries.
