LinkedIn status update to support photos and other ‘rich media’ sharing

Users can now upload images, documents, presentations and other files to any post on their LinkedIn network.

Professional networking site LinkedIn looks to be more serious about having multimedia content on their network. It recently added photo and rich media sharing support to user profiles. And now the network has rolled out the similar functionality for its status updates posted from the homepage. With the latest update, LinkedIn users can now directly share images, documents, presentations and other types of media content from the status update bar – something very common on Facebook and Google .

“Whether it’s a thought provoking presentation about the future of big data or it’s a picture of an inspirational quote, or perhaps it’s an infographic showing the top trends impacting your industry, the possibilities are endless for what you can share on LinkedIn to add a richer and more visual component to your professional discussions,” says LinkedIn a post.

To get started, LinkedIn users need to click on the paperclip of the right side of share box on the homepage, and begin with uploading images or files. Users also option to attach a video or any other media content that’s hosted already on another site by simply entering the URL into the status box to include in their update.

The update is available for LinkedIn’s Company Pages as well. LinkedIn plans to roll out the update to its mobile apps as well; though it is a desktop-only feature initially.

LinkedIn’s latest effort to make its network more visually appealing seems to be part of the company’s long campaign to refashion the professional networking site and also step up the user engagement. Amid speculations of rival networking sites getting into jobs business, LinkedIn’s major improvement on visuals is definitely going to appeal to younger audience.
