Lenovo Tab 7 and Tab 7 Essential are entry-level tablets priced at $99.99 and $79.99 respectively.

With the new Tab 7 series, Lenovo seems to be gearing up to compete with similar budget tablets from Amazon under its Fire brand. In terms of specifications, Lenovo Tab 7 sports a 7-inch LCD display with HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and is powered by MediaTek's Quad-core MT8161 chipset clocked at 1.3GHz. The budget tablet comes with 1GB RAM and 16GB internal storage and features a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera.

The Lenovo Tab 7 includes connectivity features like Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and front-facing speaker with Dolby Atmos support. The tablet comes in slate black colour and Lenovo is promising 15 hours of general usage of the device.

Lenovo Tab 7 Essential

Lenovo Tab 7 Essential, as the name implies, cuts down on the specifications of the Tab 7 to reach that lower price point. It also sports a 7-inch LCD display with a slightly lower resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. Powering the device is Quad-core MediaTek MT8167 chipset coupled with 1GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. The Tab 7 Essential differs from Tab 7 in the camera department with the device featuring a 2MP camera on the front as well as the rear.

The Tab 7 Essential supports Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 . Lenovo claim it will last for 20 hours on general usage. The tablet weighs around 250 grams, supports front-facing Dolby Atmos-certified speakers and will be available in Black colour option. Both Lenovo Tab 7 and Tab 7 Essential run Android 7.0 Nougat.

According to IDC, the tablet shipments in the third quarter saw a year-over-year decline of 5.4 percent and was the twelfth consecutive quarterly decline in terms of shipments. On the bright side, the top four vendors saw positive growth in sales with Lenovo tied for the fourth spot with Huawei. With the launch of new tablets under Lenovo and Moto brands, the company will be hoping to improve shipments in the coming quarter.
