Latest Oxygen OS update draining OnePlus phones’ battery life
People who upgraded to OxygenOS 5.1.8 wrote on OnePlus forums that they are facing problems including fast battery drain and camera app freezing.
Recently, OnePlus rolled out OxygenOS 5.1.6 fixing bug issues and introducing portrait mode to the front-facing camera along with a host of other improvements (Hands On). But just a few days later, information circulating the internet suggested that the company halted the update due to some bugs. It looked like there is a new build that will hit users – OxygenOS 5.1.7 but even this update was paused and a new OxygenOS 5.1.8 update was released but that too seemed to have a big problem — fast battery drain.
After installing the update, several users, including the one who are using OnePlus 6, took to OnePlus forum complaining of severe battery drain. They said that without changing their daily routine, the device are getting almost half the screen on time they have have been getting before. Some users also complained that their phones completely shut down even when the battery is above 50 percent.
There is a third smaller group that has complained of experiencing camera app issues in which the app just freezes. There are some old device users who are complaining that their phones switch off without giving any low battery warnings at 15 percent.
The people who are affected with this update are now finding ways to downgrade to OxygenOS 5.1.6. The Chinese smartphone maker released this update just a few days after they launched OnePlus 6. To recap, the OnePlus 6 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and runs OxygenOS, which is based on Android Oreo 8.1. It features a 6.28-inch FHD+ Full Optic AMOLED display with a 19:9 aspect ratio, which has a notch on top. The rear panel of the smartphone is clad in glass where a vertically stacked dual rear camera setup is placed. There is a 16MP + 20MP sensor on the main camera, while on the front sits a 16MP sensor. The smartphone comes in a 6GB/64GB model and an 8GB RAM version with 128GB and 256GB internal storage options. You can read our review of the smartphone here.
