A new voice-calling tablet has been announced for the Indian market, bringing 2G and 3G functionality, and a whole bunch of bundled accessories and apps.
Kobian has announced the launch of a new 7-inch 3G Android tablet in India, the Mercury mTab7G, priced at Rs. 7,799. The tablet will come bundled with a tablet case cover, a keyboard, and a headset, worth Rs. 899.
The Mercury mTab7G is being called an ultra-slim tablet by Kobian, though its 10.8mm thickness is not especially astounding – not too bad for a budget tablet however. It weighs in at 300 grams, and another USP is its support for both 2G and 3G connectivity, apart from voice calling.
The new mTab7G from Mercury runs Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich on a 1.2GHz Cortex A8 processor, coupled with 512MB of DDR3 RAM. Other specifications include a 7-inch 800×480 pixel five-point multi-touch capacitive display, 4GB of built-in storage, microSD card expandability up to 32GB, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, dual camera (2MP rear, VGA front), and a 2,400 mAh battery.
The Mercury mTab7G will ship with 1 year warranty, and will be made available on store shelves after May 25. Kobian has also bundled apps with the tablet, including KingSoft Office for editing MSOffice docs, and Spuul, a video streaming service.
The voice-calling tablet will compete with numerous such offerings from other major manufacturers in India, however, its bundled accessories and apps, and 3G connectivity may just give it an edge at its price. The dated v4.0.4 ICS of the Android OS is a disappointment however.
