AI, AI, AI! I bet you have heard of this word more than you would like. AI has not only entered our smartphones, devices, offices, and even classrooms now! And you bet this is just the start of the AI revolution. We are hearing some surprising news from a school in Kerala that has now introduced an AI teacher to their classrooms and it is called ‘Iris’. Read along as I share with you what Iris is capable of doing.
Iris is a humanoid robot that runs on AI and was introduced at the KTCT Higher Secondary School in Thiruvananthapuram in collaboration with Makerlabs Edutech Private Limited. It was a part of the Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) that comes under a NITI Aayog project. Iris runs on an Intel processor and also has an Android App interface.
Let’s see what Iris can do.

Speaking about Iris, Makerlabs says, “Powered by the possibilities of Robotics and Generative AI technologies, this robot serves as a versatile teaching tool with interactive capabilities. Equipped with a dedicated Intel processor and a coprocessor for maneuvering tasks, the robot offers seamless performance and responsiveness. With its Android App interface, users can easily control and interact with the robot for a personalized learning experience.”
AI robots as teachers sound strange to me, but I’ll wait and see how this develops. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think robots can replace teachers in classrooms and would you like that? Let me know in the comments.
