Jolla announces first ever crowd-sourced tablet
HIGHLIGHTS

After announcing the Jolla Phone last year, the Finnish start-up has now introduced the Jolla Tablet which is a crowdsourcing project under the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform

Jolla has announced a brand new tablet, the Jolla Tablet, that will run on the updated Sailfish OS 2.0. The tablet will feature a 1.8 GHz Quad Core Intel processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB memory, 7.9-inch 2048×1536 display and a 5MP camera. Like the Jolla phone, the Jolla Tablet is Android compatible, which means that you can use Android applications in addition to the native Sailfish OS apps.

Co-founder and COO of Jolla comments: “After successfully entering the mobile phone market a year ago with our unique Jolla smartphone, we are now proud to introduce our next major project, the Jolla Tablet. Jolla’s independent open Sailfish OS with its cutting edge user experience works perfectly on bigger screen sizes, and we are super excited to bring the world’s best multitasking experience to the tablet size. For the Jolla Tablet we are partnering with Intel, to secure the best device performance, and reliability.”

The tablet is basically a crowd-sourced project under the Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign and early contributors (the first thousand) have the chance to participate and be the first ones to get in on the Jolla Tablet project for $189 (Rs. 12,000 approx). The campaign will arrive in all EU countries, Norway, Switzerland, United States, India, China, Hong Kong and Russia.

Jolla has not made a strong impact as of yet, and with the recent launch of Nokia's N1 Tablet it will be interesting to see how Jolla will market its new tablet. What do you think? Will the new Jolla Tablet be as good as it sounds?

Update:

Jolla just posted that it has already reached its crowdfunding target of $380,000 in just three hours. This is quite impressive as the campaign still has about 20 days to go, meaning that the funding could reach a great height.
