The first quarter of the year just got over, and the numbers that are coming in have a story to tell. A report by the International Data Corporation (IDC) suggests that Apple has claimed the first spot in year-over-year (YoY) growth in global PC shipments for the first quarter of 2024. The California-based tech giant saw a 14.6% increase in Apple Mac shipments compared to Q1 2023. This is a little over the industry average of 1.5%. But despite all this, it still lacked behind in volume
Well, this is, in any case, good news for the industry as it is finally seeing a turnaround in PC shipments after two years of decline owing to COVID-19. Apple led the growth and was closely followed by Acer with a 9.2% increase, and Lenovo with a 7.8% growth rate.

Speaking of the market share, Lenovo led that space with 23%, followed by HP at 20.1% and Dell at 15.5%. Apple, however, was a little behind with a market share of 8.1%. It did see a 1% increase from the previous year and shipped 4.8 million Apple Mac units during the first quarter of 2024.
Apple’s MacBook Air is considered the most popular laptop in the world. And with its new M3 chipset, the demand has further increased.

According to IDC, PC shipments saw a recovery owing to an increasing demand in America, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). However, there was a weak demand from China which is the largest consumer of PCs. This did put a negative pressure on the market.
Another reason behind the increased shipments was the decrease in inflation rates in most regions. But at the same time, deflationary pressures in China were not good for the global PC market.
