Apple has started to roll out the iOS 16.1 update for iPhone users.

The new iOS 16.1 is available to iPhone 8 and newer.

Along with iOS 16.1, iPadOS 16.1 and macOS Ventura has also started to roll out for iPad and Mac users.

Apple has started to roll out the iOS 16.1 update for iPhone users around the globe after a little over a month of beta testing. The update is said to bring some new features along with lots of bug fixes. Let us first check out all the things that Apple has updated with the iOS 16.1 update.

Apple has introduced many new features with the update, starting off with iCloud Shared Photo Library, it allows users to separate library for seamlessly sharing photos and videos with up to five other people. Next up, Live Activities has also been updated as it now allows third party apps in the Dynamic Island and on the Lock Screen for iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max users. 

There is even a key sharing feature that enables users to securely share car, hotel room, and other keys in Wallet using messaging apps such as Messages and WhatsApp. A new setting called Clean Energy Charging now allows to reduce the carbon footprint by selectively charging when lower carbon emission electricity is available.

The battery percentage to the battery icon in the status bar has been added on the ‌iPhone‌ XR, ‌iPhone‌ 11, iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 13 mini. Not all iPhones supported this feature in ‌the first release of iOS 16‌. The update has also improved visual indication of the charge level as the font size of the battery icon has been slightly increased.

As for the bug fixes, Apple has fixed quite a few bugs with this update. They have fixed the bug where deleted conversations appeared in the conversations list in Messages. Next they’ve also fixed the Dynamic Island bug in which content was not available when using Reachability. The update has also fixed the CarPlay bug that didn’t allow the phone to connect with a Car when using a VPN app.

The new update is available for iPhone 8 and newer iPhones. Follow the steps below to update your iPhone to iOS 16.1:

  • First, make sure your device is plugged in and connected to the internet 
  • Next, go to settings 
  • There, go to General and then click on software update
  • Check for update and if there’s an update available then tap on install now
  • You can now sit back and relax, as your iPhone wil now be updated.
