Intex launches 3G wireless data card, at Rs. 2,820
Intex has launched its first 3G wireless data card, an operator agnostic device that has been priced at Rs. 2,820. While the data card will be available by itself as well, Intex plans to partner with 3G service providers to offer attractive combo offers soon. The Intex 3G wireless data card will be available across major electronic and mobile stores, as well as Intex Squares exclusive retail stores.
Also compatible with GPRS/EDGE connectivity, the Intex 3G wireless data card is theoretically capable of 3G data transfer rates of 7.2Mbps download and 5.76Mbps upload. It can also be used as a pen drive, with space for a 16GB microSD card. The Intex 3G wireless data card is compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Mac OS and Linux.
According to Intex, the company’s new data card will allow users to send and receive SMSes, as well as manage a phonebook, through the laptop / PC. Commenting on the launch, Mr. Vikram Kalia, GM- Product Management, Intex Technologies said:
“Intex 3G wireless data card strengthens Intex’s commitment to bring a digital revolution by transforming the way Indians communicate, conduct business and get entertained. The data card allows the users to access internet whenever and wherever they want without having to worry about Wi-Fi hotspots or the exorbitantly priced tariffs of hotels, etc. In today’s world, being connected 24/7 has become a necessity, a way of life. Keeping this in mind, Intex has launched this card with wireless access on both 2G & 3G SIM, making seamless and continued connectivity a reality for its customers.”
Notably, Huawei, the world’s largest manufacturer of data cards, also entered the operator-agnostic data card market in January this year. We’ll have to wait and see how the competition heats up in the segment.
