Today at Computex, Intel launched the mobile dual core “Pine Trail” platform, optimised for low power consumption and higher performance in thinner and sleeker netbooks. ‘Pine Trail’ is a two chip Atom-based solution: one chip houses the processor and the GPU on the same die, and the other chip houses the I/O hub chip. The architecture increase the power efficiency and battery life, while giving a performance boost over the current netbooks. However, it would be interesting to see how the integrated graphics compares with a dedicated solution like the NVIDIA Ion 2.
