Intel Clover Trail+ to power Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1: Reports
One version of Samsung's Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 to be powered by Intel's Clover Trail+ SoC? Will Intel powered tablets finally take centre-stage?
Samsung is reportedly working with Intel to power at least one version of its yet-to-be-released 10.1-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 3. The tablet is supposed to be powered by Intel’s latest Clover Trail SoC that was announced at MWC 2013. The Clover Trail SoC (Intel Atom Z2580) is a mildly upgraded version of their Clover Trail processors, the primary difference being the improved graphics capabilities of CT .
Intel is really struggling in the mobile space and is yet to develop a strong foothold in the market. Unless it can produce at least one “killer” product, it doesn’t really stand a chance against the likes of Qualcomm and Nvidia, among others. Hopefully, the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 will be the tech demo that Intel needs.
Intel’s weak spot has always been power consumption and battery life and while CT doesn’t drastically improve upon the previous generation the way the upcoming Bay Trail architecture promises, it’s a step in the right direction, performance-wise.
