The Indian Parliament will now use digital documents instead of papers and the Government will train MPs to use these documents in an effort to promote the Digital India campaign.
In efforts towards creating a digital governance process, the Indian parliament will now complelety ditch paper. From this winter session onwards, all annual ministry, committee, panel reports, bills and unstarred questions will be uploaded on the Parliament website. This will enable all Members of Parliament to access documents digitally and make processes faster, rather than using countless number of papers. Promoting its Digital India campaign, the Government is also initiating digital literacy programmes for ministers to teach them how to use digital documents. Post the training, all MPs are expected to use only digital documents. This seems like quite an expectation as majority of our MPs are not tech savvy.
Earlier this year, it was also announced that the Union Cabinet meetings will use the Amazon Kindle as oppossed to papers. All notes for meetings will be put on the e-reader and shared with ministers. The devices will then have to be returned to the Cabinet Secretariat.
We are yet to hear any updates on the implementation of these processes though. Deatils regarding the training period of MPs and Kindle usage in meetings have still not emerged but the digital documents roll-out seems like a step in the right direction.
