India Post, now tweeting!

India Post, now tweeting!

It has given lingering memories to many generations and induces nostalgia in people who have experienced the feeling of waiting eagerly for a letter. Now, with instantaneous communication, we might not want to go back to those times, but the Indian Postal Service is keen to keep up with us. It is curious how the ever-so-slow government services are now joining the impatient-generation on social networking sites. After Delhi Police, it’s now the turn of India Post to step out of retro-land and join the twitterati. It’s interesting to note that the account was started about 3 months back, but due to zero advertisement efforts, it was not noticed until the recent media coverage. The organisation has been posting regular tweets about their services and initiatives, besides addressing grievances of the public. There is a definite effort of image makeover. As Radhika Doraiswamy, Secretary of India Post says, the department is looking for feedback and comments to improve its services. We just hope that the tweets come daily and regularly and the account doesn’t become as irresponsive as the ‘Complaints’ box hanging in every public sector office. You can follow the world’s largest postal service @ PostOfficeIndia. The account has 3,640 followers already and is following fellow public sector tweeters, Delhi Police and Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010.
