In a disturbing incident, a 23-year-old private firm employee from Hyderabad fell victim to a sophisticated scam, losing a staggering Rs 12 lakh. The cyber fraudsters, claiming to be representatives from FedEx, duped the young man into believing his Aadhaar card details were being misused in an unethical scheme involving drug trafficking to Saudi Arabia.
According to Hyderabad Cyber Crimes police, the victim received a call purporting to be from FedEx, informing him of a suspicious courier dispatched from Mumbai. Shockingly, the caller claimed the package contained 50 grams of MDMA and 5 kilograms of diabetes tablets allegedly linked to the victim’s Aadhaar number. To add credibility, the scammers orchestrated a convincing ruse, transferring the call to supposed Mumbai Cyber Crime officials via a Skype video call, reports The Hindu.
