A 53-year-old man from Hyderabad fell victim to a scam after he received a fraudulent link in a WhatsApp message. The victim, who works for a private company and resides in Old Safilguda, received the link in a WhatsApp message from an unidentified number claiming to be from the PM Kisan scheme. Some of the main advantages of the PM Kisan scheme, which is well-known for providing farmers with financial support, were included in the message. The victim clicked on the link because it appeared to be genuine, which led him to a fraud website.

The victim gave all of his information, believing the website to be authentic, in order to find out more about the advantages of the government program. He shared the one-time password (OTP) as soon as he received it after following the website’s instructions. As a result, the scammers were able to withdraw Rs. 1.9 lakh from his account.

Eventually, the victim became aware of the unauthorized transactions and realized he had been conned. He then informed the Rachakonda Cybercrime Police about the scam, and they are currently looking into it. According to reports, the police are attempting to identify the scammers and have warned people to exercise caution when they receive such messages, especially those that offer financial assistance.

How to be safe:

To be safe, all individuals should first confirm the authenticity of any message they receive claiming to offer government benefits and learn more about the schemes. Individuals can verify the authenticity by visiting PM Kisan (pmkisan.gov.in) and the National Portal of India (india.gov.in) for more information.

It is also advised that individuals do not click on any suspicious links received via WhatsApp, email, or social media platforms. These are the most common methods used by scammers to redirect victims to fake websites and steal personal information such as bank accounts, PINs, passwords, and more.

If you suspect a scam, please report it to the authorities or the Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in).
