Huawei has finally announced the MediaPad, and Android tablet it has been talking about for a while now. A 7-inch tablet, Huawei says the tablet will be the first 7-inch Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablet to be launched, when it arrives in the Q3 2011 launch window. From the images the company has released of the tablet – it looks like an enlarged iPhone 4, with all its seams, and metal rim.
In terms of specifications, the Huawei MediaPad has a surprise up its sleeve – it’s a Honeycomb tablet without the dual-core Tegra 2 processor! Instead, it packs a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor, possibly the same as what the HTC Sensation packs, and so could be potentially coupled with the Adreno 220 GPU, as part of the Snapdragon MSM 8260 chipset. The 7-inch capacitive touchscreen features an IPS display, though for now, no details on the exact resolution have been announced – we expect it to be anywhere in between 1024×600 and 1280×800.

Other features of the tablet include a slim width of 10.5mm, a weight of around 390 grams, 1080p HD playback, HDMI out, a 5MP autofocus 720p HD video recording-capable rear camera and a 1.3MP front-facing camera, HSPA 14.4Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and Flash 10.3 compatibility. Huawei promises a 6 hour battery life for the MediaPad, as well as access to the Android Market. Huawei also gives users access to its cloud storage solution – Hi-Space.
It will also come preinstalled with applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Let’s Golf and Documents to Go. As for pricing, no infomration has been released, but with Huawei’s reputation as a low-cost champ, we expect it to be very competitively priced, even with its Wi-Fi 3G model.
