HP is working on a backpack PC that will allow users to attach a virtual reality headset and enjoy a high-end virtual reality experience. The backpack is basically a desktop PC powered by an Intel Core i5 or i7 processors with 32GB of memory and an unspecified graphics card. The device weighs about 10 pounds (approx 4.5kg) and will be powered by two batteries, which will be placed in a belt attached to the waist. The company says that these batteries are hot-swappable.
The name of the device hasn’t yet been confirmed, but will most likely be a part of HP Omen X lineup. The company also says that it will showcase a demo of the device sometime next month. However, HP won’t be the only company to offer a backpack PC for VR headsets. A few days ago, MSI unveiled a backpack PC that is powered by a Intel Core i7 processor with a Nvidia GTX980 graphics card. Both these devices aim to offer users of VR headsets like the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift, an untethered VR experience.
