HP ElitePad 900 Windows 8 Pro business tablet launched at Rs. 43,900
HP has come forward with a pretty neat solution for the business professional, the ElitePad 900, which is a Windows 8 tablet that boasts of pretty good specs and a rather slim form factor.
Hewlett Packard has announced the availability of the HP ElitePad 900, a tablet aimed at business professionals and thus, being marketed as such. The ElitePad 900 is pegged at Rs. 43,500, which is pretty steep for a tablet, but there’s a lot the tablet offers to make the price seem worth it.
For starters, the tablet runs on Microsoft’s latest OS Windows 8 Pro, which could be a hit or miss depending on your preference. Seeing as how the tablet is designed for business professionals, the choice of using the x86 version of Windows is definitely a good one, giving the user maximum latitude to use legacy applications. To get the new OS running swiftly, HP has chosen to go with a 1.8GHz Intel Dual Core Atom (Z2760) processor along with 2GB of RAM, and the fast bootup times promised by the 64GB SSD.
The HP ElitePad 900 sports a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1280×800 pixels, which doesn’t look too stellar when you note that Microsoft’s own Surface Pro has a full HD 10.6-inch display (1920×1080 pixels). But then again, the ElitePad 900 does offer far superior imaging options, with an 8 megapixel camera on the back and a full HD camera in the front, when compared to the 720p cameras that adorn the front and back of the Surface Pro.
Given that HP is marketing the ElitePad 900 as a “business tablet,” weight and form factor seem to be at the forefront of considerations. This new slate from HP weighs just under 1.5 pounds (0.6 kgs) while the Surface Pro seems to be measure in at a somewhat heavy 2 pounds (1 kg). Then there is the issue of thickness too, seeing as the ElitePad 900 is a mere 0.36 inches thick while the Surface looks like bulky at .53 inch.
The biggest advantage the HP ElitePad 900 has over the Surface Pro is the fact that it is currently available through official channels in India. The Surface Pro retails for $900 for the 64GB version, which roughly comes out to anything between Rs. 48,000 – Rs. 51,000, depending on the dollar rate. Even if you do decide to get the Surface from the US, besides costing just a tad more than the ElitePad 900, you would also not be eligible for any warranty or tech support in India. If peace of mind is something you value a lot, the ElitePad 900 is definitely a much better option as it will come with HP’s standard 1-year warranty.
What’s more is that HP also has a bunch of accessories available for the ElitePad 900 such as a sleeve which adds expansion options along with an additional battery to the setup, a stylus, various kinds of keyboards etc., to make sure that all your needs are fulfilled. The HP ElitePad 900 can be had for Rs. 43,500 from most authorized HP outlets across the country. Do also check out our feature, 13 Windows 8 Pro tablet alternatives to Microsoft’s Surface Pro.
