Propelled by the success of the Street 750, Harley-Davidson launched three new motorcycles to add to its India lineup. For the first time after Harley Davidson came to India five years ago, the company is now offering all 7 of it’s motorcycle lines to Indian customers, just like anywhere else in the world.
The Breakout with its 60's era long and low profile with drag racer styling
The three models launched are spaced across a wide price band and cater to a wide variety of consumer segments as well. The (relatively) lowest end bike unveiled at the event in Mumbai was the Breakout. Belonging to Harley-Davidson’s Softail family of motorcycles, the Breakout is inspired by the gasser era of drag racing. This means big wheels, a hot-rod style paint job and a long wheel base. The Breakout will be priced at Rs. 16,28,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) and is the only one of the three that’s going to be assembled here in India.
The Street Glide Special is a full featured performance tourer
Next up is the Street Glide Special – a pure performance tourer with all the bells and whistles you could want. Powered by Harley’s 103 cubic inch powertrain V-twin engine (roughly 1690cc), the bike comes with features like a GPS equipped touch screen infotainment unit in the front gadget cluster. Harley-Davidson has bundled complete maps of the Indian subcontinent but updates need to be loaded into the system via USB. There’s a Harman Kardon 5.25-inch speaker system mounted securely in sealed and tuned enclosed housings, which surprisingly you can hear quite clearly over the engine sound (without custom pipes of course). The Street Glide Special is priced at Rs. 29,70,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).
The CVO Limited is the ultimate in luxury touring that Harley-Davidson has to offer.
Now we get to the start of the show – the CVO Limited. Priced at Rs. 49,23,793 the CVO Limited is truly one of a kind. Only a few thousand of these limited edition bikes will be hand crafted for the worldwide market. As with other Custom Vehicle Operation bikes, this particular model will be available only for this year and will be discontinued immediately, thereby adding to it’s exclusive nature. Pushing luxury touring to the next level, the bike comes with all creature comforts imaginable including heated seats, 4-way speaker system, and keyless ignition. It also has the most number of enhancements that resulted from Harley Davidson’s Project Rushmore R&D endeavour. The Reflex linked brakes with ABS, the Daymaker LED headlamps and fog lamps, and steering head with stiffer front forks – all project rushmore goodies, all found on the CVO Limited. Powering this glorious beast is a 110 cubic inches twin cam engine that produces 115 lb-ft of torque at 3750 rpm. It goes without saying that this particular model is for someone who’s definitely not only owned a Harley previously but is also a bike enthusiast with deep deep pockets and wants to make a top-of-the-line upgrade.
All three motorcycles will be available starting today.
