In today’s digital age, cyber fraud is an alarming issue that affects countless individuals across the nation. Recognising the urgency to combat this growing threat, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has launched a series of robust measures to tackle cybercrime. The I4C wing, dedicated to cyber security, is at the forefront of this initiative, taking significant steps to protect citizens from online scams.

In a bold move, the government has deactivated 6,00,000 mobile phones. Alongside this, the I4C has successfully blocked 65,000 URLs associated with scams, effectively cutting off pathways for cyber fraudsters. In addition to these measures, around 800 applications involved in cyber fraud have also been blocked, reports The Vocal News.

The efforts of the I4C wing are ongoing, and they are determined to curb cyber fraud in all its forms. The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) has been a crucial resource in this fight, receiving over 1,00,000 complaints related to investment scams alone in 2023, which resulted in around 17,000 First Information Reports (FIRs) being filed across the country. From January to September 2024, the portal has registered a staggering number of complaints, including 6,000 related to digital arrests, 20,043 trading scam reports, 62,687 investment scam cases, and 1,725 dating scam complaints.

What is I4C wing?

Established on October 5, 2018, the I4C wing operates under the Cyber and Information Security (CIS) division of the MHA. Its primary goal is to create a national coordination centre to tackle all cybercrime issues effectively. The I4C connects with state control rooms to monitor high-priority cases, aids in crime prevention, and provides crucial technical and legal support. Additionally, trained personnel from paramilitary forces and state police work within this framework to enhance its effectiveness.

With these significant actions, the government is sending a clear message: it is serious about combating cyber fraud and ensuring the safety of its citizens in the digital world.
