Google’s Gemini Live feature will reportedly let you use AI on the lock screen and more
Gemini Live was demonstrated as a fullscreen experience at I/O 2024.
This new feature was spotted in the latest beta version (15.27) of the Google app.
In the future, we might also be able to do complex stuff on the Gemini app.
Google announced a lot of exciting features during its I/O and slowly it is rolling those out. Hopefully, by the summer of 2025, Google might also unveil the Gemini Live feature. With this upcoming feature, users will be able to have two-way conversations with Gemini. Let’s find out more about it.
The feature was demonstrated as a fullscreen experience at I/O 2024. Gemini Live will change how you interact with your AI chatbot and it will function even in the background, including on your lock screen.
How are we so sure that Google might unveil it soon? This new feature was spotted in the latest beta version (15.27) of the Google app. A “background_mode” feature was spotted on the same page. With this feature, users can “continue [Gemini] Live chats while using other apps or while your screen is locked.”

How to use Gemini Live?
This is an advancement as currently both Google Assistant and Gemini interactions stop when the app is not being used or the phone is locked. Users will be able to use different apps and converse with Gemini to get any additional information that they might require.
If you don’t want to continue the session, you can simply say “Stop” to Gemini Live or find the notification and tap on it to end the chat.
In the future, we might also be able to do complex stuff on the Gemini app which includes using it on the lock screen, like I mentioned previously. Users will have access to Messages, Workspace, and Home Automation options directly from the lock screen. Even extensions for Google Maps, YouTube, Google Flights, and Google Hotels will be enabled on the lock screen, by default.
To spice things up further, users will also be able to use the “Spoken message notifications” feature which will allow Gemini to read messages aloud.
Are you excited about these upcoming Gemini AI features?
