YouTube doesn’t have the best commenting system on the web, as a number of videos are littered with meaningless, idiotic, and racist rants. But the situation is going to change soon with Google reportedly bringing in an improved commenting system for the video sharing website.
The revelations about the change in YouTube’s commenting system were made at the recently held Google I/O conference. YouTube’s Dror Shimshowitz said during at a breakout session that Google is “working on some improvements to the comment system,” details of which should be available in the coming months, according to Wired. Shimshowitz, however, declined to divulge more information in a follow up interview.
Google may consider making it mandatory for a commenter to provide real-life details, similar to what Facebook has for its commenting system across its social network. Google has apparently moved one step in that direction, as it now allows Google users to use YouTube channel on their profile. It’s learnt that adding YouTube to Google will remove the previous username, and replace it with your full name from Google .
“If you are currently YouTube user joeysam87, you can now appear as Joey Samson, the full name from your Google profile (with an actual space in the middle!), along with any photo you uploaded,” said a YouTube blog post. But before making the final change, YouTube will provide you an option to review previous activities just in case you don’t want it to link with Google accounts.
“By clicking ‘Review my content,’ you can see every video, comment or playlist you’ve ever posted, and decide whether you want it associated with your full name before making the change,” the blog further said.
