Artificial Intelligence is the way forward, and the leading tech players know it. That’s the reason why all of these companies, be it Microsoft, Google, or any other, are not only putting in all the efforts but also the money to push forward their AI ambitions. It looks like they are in a constant race with each other. And I think that they think so too.
Now, in a recent TED conference held in Canada, Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, said that Google will eventually pitch in over $100 billion in the advancement of artificial general intelligence (AGI).
This seems like Google’s response to Microsoft’s Stargate project. For the uninitiated, Microsoft recently announced its Stargate project. As per reports, Microsoft and OpenAI are currently in talks to develop a $100 billion supercomputer project for artificial intelligence system training. This is called the “Frontier” system. It is said to be the most powerful supercomputer in the world and is located in the United States. The construction of this alone cost around $600 million.

Hassabis’ remark is proof enough that Google has acknowledged what Microsoft and OpenAI are doing. It also shows that Google is not willing to share its plans but is willing to put in as much money as its competitor towards the goal. Seems like a classic tech-company Cold War plot.
Why are Google and Microsoft in such a rush?
Both of these companies are willing to put in all the effort and money because both of them want to become the first to create artificial general intelligence (AGI). As we have seen in ChatGPT’s case, the first mover always has an advantage.
The AI industry will get more competitive with time it seems, and only time will tell what is in store for us.
