Google showcases DayDream VR capabilities in two new videos
The two demos show how animators will be able to utilize the capabilities of the new platform
Google has uploaded two new videos showcasing the capabilities of its new VR platform, DayDream. The first video named Animator, shows how Virtual Reality can be used by people to create animations by allowing people to physically grab an object and drag it to the intended place, instead of using traditional tools we see on most editing software. The second video named Puppeteer, demonstrates how developers can animate various bodies. It will be interesting to see the level of customization users can achieve when these tools will be available for users.
DayDream VR was introduced earlier this year at Google I/O, and has significantly higher requirements as compared to Google Cardboard. Specific SoCs and other sensors would be required for a phone to be DayDream ready. Huawei already announced its plans to launch a DayDream compatible phone this fall.
Microsoft also did some great research in VR, with Flashback, a new algorithm to pre-render VR frames, which can greatly improve performance. It works by storing pre-rendered frames on a storage medium and thus reducing the rendering and overall latency.
