Born in Budapest on September 16, 1893, Szent-Gyorgyi was active in the Hungarian Resistance during World War II. Soon after the war, Szent-Gyorgyi joined the Hungarian politics. However, discontent with the incumbent Communist government in Hungary, he emigrated to the US in 1947.

The Szent-Gyorgi doodle is a simple jpeg file, showcasing Vitamin C rich fruits such as oranges, pineapples and strawberries. Click the doodle itself, and it takes you to sites featuring Szent-Gyorgyi. Google doodles have gained immense popularity across the world over the years. The Google team has come with several commemorative doodles on events ranging from birthdays, anniversaries, scientific accomplishments to important dates in history. The recent doodles have been more interactive and dynamic. Google recently posted a video doodle to commemorate birthday of legendary performer Freddie Mercury.
