Google November security update starts rolling out for Nexus and Pixel devices

The November security update offers patches for 47 known vulnerabilities with 14 termed critical, 23 marked as high severity and 10 marked as moderate severity.

Google continues to deliver on its promise of monthly security updates for its Android smartphones. Google has announced that its rolling out November security patch for Nexus, Pixel and Pixel C devices running Android. With this update, Google is renaming all the devices supported by Google as Google devices instead of Nexus devices.

The November security update offers patches for 47 known vulnerabilities with 14 termed critical, 23 marked as high severity and 10 marked as moderate severity. The November security update offers complete security up to November 5 while another supplemental patch dated November 6 offers patch to additional critical vulnerability. The security update is available for compatible Google devices via OTA update but users can also make use of the factory images.

Google says source code patches for these issues will be released to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) repository in the next 48 hours. With this update, Google is patching a severe vulnerability that could enable remote code execution on any affected device through email, web browsing or MMS while processing media.

Google says there are no reports of active customer exploitation or abuse of the newly discovered issues. Google Pixel is also getting update from Verizon on the same day. The security update for Google Pixel and Pixel XL carries a differen build number. The Verizon-exclusive Google Pixel and Pixel XL also bring message notifications while connected to a vehicle bluetooth systems. It adds Daydream View performance and adds New Mexico as a state option during WiFi calling setup.

It is advisable to download the update from OTA channel and backup all the data before downloading the latest update. Readers must also note that it is better to keep the device fully charged before downloading the update.
