HTC says that the reason for the discontinuation was that the company completed its manufacturing run of the tablet

The Google Nexus 9 tablet may have been discontinued according to a report by Cnet. An HTC spokesperson told the publication that the company has stopped manufacturing the device. The company added that the reason for the discontinuation wasn’t due to demand, but because HTC completed its manufacturing run of the Nexus 9.

The Google Nexus 9 tablet was announced in 2014, alongside the Nexus 6 phablet. The Nexus 9 features a 9-inch display with a resolution of 2048 x 1440 pixels and is powered by a 2.3GHz Nvidia Tegra K1 SoC with 2GB of RAM. It sports 8MP and 1.6MP cameras and a 6700mAh battery. The device was available in 16GB and 32GB storage variants and featured BoomSound stereo speakers.

If the report is true and the Nexus 9 is being discontinued, then there will no longer be any stand-alone tablet in the Nexus lineup. While Google did unveil the Pixel C, the device is a hybrid that is more akin to the Microsoft Surface and the Apple iPad Pro, which are geared more towards productivity. However, the Nexus 9 may not be HTC’s last go at Nexus devices as the company may be manufacturing this year’s smartphones. In fact, they may be manufacturing Nexus devices till 2018.
