Google Maps to help NE voters locate polling stations

Updated on 28-Apr-2016

Electors in NE states can now use Google Maps to locate their polling stations and access other electoral information on the go. According to Tripura Chief Electoral Officer Ashutosh Jindal, electors can check out the information on the Maps by visiting the Election Commission or state chief electoral officer’s website.

Users can choose their district, constituency and polling station names using the drop down lists to check out the polling station locations of the selected area. With Google Maps, users can activate the satellite image layer and see the polling stations and the streets leading to them. Information such as electoral rolls, names and mobile phone numbers of the chief electoral officer, district election officer, electoral registration officer and booth level officer can are also available via the Google Maps.

"Google Maps would automatically provide the exact location of the polling stations the voters are looking for,” said the official, revealing Google Maps already has polling station locations in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu and NE states.

"Polling stations of the rest of the country are being plotted gradually and will be available very soon on the websites."

The availability of electoral information on Google Maps means electors will no longer need to visit various offices to get the information and details about the officials. "The basic electoral information now can be known within a minute. It is hassle free and it's for everyone to use," Jindal added.
