The warning comes as part of the January Android security bulletin, which reveals a series of critical vulnerabilities that could leave devices exposed to hackers. These flaws are serious because they could allow cybercriminals to execute malicious code without requiring additional permissions, putting users’ personal data at risk.

The January security update, rolled out on January 6, highlights five severe vulnerabilities that affect Android 12 to Android 15 devices. These flaws, all tied to the Android system component, could enable attackers to gain control of a device from a distance. Although Google has not gone into detail about how these issues work, the company has confirmed that these vulnerabilities represent a significant threat to users.

The vulnerabilities identified in the January update are assigned the following codes: CVE-2024-43096, CVE-2024-43770, CVE-2024-43771, CVE-2024-49747, and CVE-2024-49748. All of these are considered critical, meaning that if left unpatched, they could lead to serious security breaches.

To stay safe, the best thing you can do is update your device to the latest security patch, dated January 5, 2025, or later. This update will patch the vulnerabilities and protect your device from potential cyberattacks.
