Google+ integrates live transcriptions into Hangouts with Hangout Captions
Google has released a new application for its social network Google that integrates live chat transcription for Hangouts. The new app, named as Hangout Captions, is aimed at making the video-chat feature of Hangouts more accessible for users with hearing-impairments. The Hangout Captions application also enables users who are deaf or have trouble hearing to participate in the conversation.
Google ‘s Hangout Captions features two sorts of transcription. The first option is more of a professional transcription through StreamText, while the second one is a very basic transcription that allows users to type out on the keyboard.
“By adding the Hangout Captions app, you can either connect live text from a professional transcriptionist to your Hangout, or type right into a text box yourself to transcribe a Hangout for your friends,” Naomi Black, technical program manager for accessibility engineering said in a post on Google .
“Right now, we only support professional transcription through StreamText and our ‘do-it-yourself’ Basic Transcription. This is an early look at the app so you can tell us what you think.”
Hangout Captions is available now via the app’s website.
Naomi Black has also posted a video to explain how the Hangout Captions work. Check it out:
