How do you get a patent for an text box and a couple of links? You’ll have to ask Google, cause that’s what they just did.
It’s website… it’s a search engine.. it’s a “Graphical user interface for a display screen of a communications terminal”!
The famous Google homepage, the epitome of simplicity, and widely praised for being so, is now patented. This proves once and for all that it is possible to get a patent for, a page design any 15 year-old with basic HTML skills could make. Get your right now! Will look good on that resume.
Their search results page, which itself couldn’t get much simpler, had already been issued a patent back in 2006.
This is sure to install some fear in any new search engine which aims for simplicity, move along, simplicity’s taken, try something new. Overall a rather embarrassing patent for Google’s profile.
