To mark the 450th anniversary of Moscow’s Saint Basil’s Cathedral, Google has posted a commemorative doodle on its home page. Visitors to Google home page will get to see an image of cathedral in place of regular Google logo. Clicking on the logo will direct you to search results for St. Basil’s Cathedral.
Saint Basil’s Cathedral is a Russian Orthodox church built at Red Square in Moscow in 1555–61. The church was built on the order of Ivan IV of Russia to mark the capture of Kazan and Astrakhan. Reckoned for its glorious history, the church is inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

The Google doodles have gained immense popularity over the last few years. The artistic take on the popular events, achievements and birthdays has been widely praised. The Google team seems to be constantly working on its popular doodle segment. Though the Saint Basil’s doodle is static, some of the Google doodles have been very innovative and dynamic.
Google’s previous interactive doodle was June 15 midnight lunar eclipse. The eclipse doodle was in fact Google’s first “live doodle” as the image refreshed after every two minutes. Later a scroller was incorporated to enable users to view various phases of the eclipse.
Another notable interactive doodle was to mark the 96th birthday of the country and jazz guitarist, songwriter and inventor, Les Paul. The logo resembling an electronic guitar allowed users to play tunes using the keystrokes.
