Google doodle celebrates Charles Dickens’ 200th birthday

Google today celebrates 200th birth anniversary of Charles Dickens by putting up a doodle dedicated to the British author on its home page. The legendary novelist of 19th century is known for memorable characters such as Oliver Twist and David Copperfield. Dickens’ popular novels such as Tale of Two Cities and Nicholas Nickleby are still considered among the most classic ones. His most of the works revolve around the hardships faced by the poor and working class during the industrial revolution.

Today’s Google doodle features popular characters from his work such as Ebenezer Scrooge, Oliver Twist, and Philip Pirrip. Unlike the traditional doodles that took users to search results and related news, the Charles Dickens doodle directs users to Google Books search results page listing Dickens’ popular novels.

Over the years, Google has frequently swapped its logo with a doodle. The artistic take on Google logo is highly popular among users. The growing popularity of these doodles has prompted the search engine giant to come up with more innovative doodles to commemorate several international events ranging from birthdays to important dates in history. Some of the recent doodles have been highly interactive and dynamic. Google’s video doodle for Freddie Mercury and the Les Paul doodle are some of the most popular Google doodles.
