Search engine giant Google today turned 25 years old, and is celebrating this milestone with a special Doodle. Taking a “walk down memory lane”, the company showcased different doodles over the years. The latest one comes with a GIF which transforms ‘Google’ into ‘G25gle’, to mark the 25 years.

“Today’s Doodle celebrates Google’s 25th year. And while here at Google we’re oriented towards the future,  birthdays can also be a time to reflect. Let’s take a walk down memory lane to learn how we were born 25 years ago,” the company wrote on the Google Doodles page.

The company further mentioned that much has changed since 1998, including its logo. However, its mission has remained the same: to organise the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. “Billions of people from all over the globe use Google to search, connect, work, play, and SO much more!” it added.

In addition to the new Doodle, users will also see “a little surprise” when they search for (or hum) birthday-related queries, according to Google.

How Google was born

Doctoral students, Sergey Brin and Larry Page, met while studying computer science at Stanford University in the late ‘90s. They both had a similar vision: to make the World Wide Web a more accessible place.

They worked hard from their dorm rooms to create a better search engine. As their project progressed, they moved their work to Google’s first office, which was just a rented garage. Finally, on September 27, 1998, Google Inc. was officially founded.
