Google, in their blog post, announced the new version of Chrome OS for older PC & Mac users. The new version is called Chrome OS Flex. The operating system is best designed for businesses and schools. The new version is free and very easy to install, as mentioned in the blog post. The new version is similar to the Google Chrome OS as they are created from the same base code and follows the same release cadence.
Chrome OS Flex carries some of the similar features as Chrome OS which includes background system updates, access to Web apps, and Android phone notification syncing. The new operating system boots up quickly and also offers security with sandboxing and protection against viruses, ransomware, and phishing. With Chrome OS Flex, users will be able to access the official Chrome browser and Google Assistant. But they will not have access to the Google Play store.
As long as you have a compatible Mac or PC, you can install the early version of the new Chrome OS Flex with a few quick steps using a USB drive. Make sure to verify if your device is included in the certified model's list and fill out a form before downloading the new operating system.
Do note that the OS is in early access, so you may experience some bugs or glitches along the way. The stable version should be available in a few months. Google also stated that CloudReady customers can upgrade to Chrome OS for no extra charge.
