Google marks the last day of 2013 with an animated Doodle. The Google Doodle shows the numbers 2013 disco dancing under a glitter ball and speakers while the number 4 waits for its turn in the line up.
The Doodle reads ‘Happy New Year’ if you put your mouse over it. Although the doodle looks interactive, it is just animated this time. Clicking on the Doodle takes you to a page which lists the New Year’s Eve festivities and other search results from around the world. The link turns you to the search homepage that goes to Google’s Zeitgest 2013 interactive, the top 100 searches, a 2013 gallery, search trends and a page of year-in-review lists.
Google has shown a wide range of Doodle’s this year, celebrating birth anniversaries of musicians, scientists, holidays, important world events and much more. The first Google Doodle appeared in 1998 which referenced the Burning Man festival that Google founder Larry and Sergey were attending. Since then the Google Doodle has become a regular feature on the internet search engine.
Google’s Happy Holidays series of Doodles starting from Christmas Eve have been very interesting. The Christmas Eve Doodle showed children riding a one horse open sleigh in a cold winter night with snow covered ground and leafless trees. The second doodle on Christmas day showed a city with sparkling lights and a Christmas tree. The third Doodle under the series on boxing day showed a solitary house with smoke coming out of the chimney in a winter scene.
