Google is reportedly working to bring a “Memory” feature to the Bard chatbot. With this feature, Bard is expected to remember important details about you and your preferences. For those who are unaware, Bard is an AI chatbot which Google launched earlier this year.
According to a report by 9To5Google, Bard will soon be able to remember important details that you tell the AI chatbot.

Currently, each new interaction with Bard begins with a fresh start. This means that if you and a friend both ask Google’s AI the same question, you’ll receive fairly similar responses.
Some details that Bard can use to customise your responses include your current location (if you share it), and the newly introduced “Extensions” feature that can access information like your Gmail inbox. However, there are instances where it can be tedious to repeatedly remind the AI chatbot of certain information at the start of each conversation. For example, if you’re following a gluten-free diet or have specific food allergies, you need to mention these details to Bard every time you request recipe ideas.

With the upcoming “Memory” feature, Bard will likely remember specific details that you share with it and use them to improve future results.
A similar feature was announced by OpenAI for ChatGPT earlier this year in the form of “custom instructions.”
On the Memory page, which is expected to be accessible from the left-side menu, you will likely have the option to add new preferences. It is expected that this page will also provide the capability to remove memories that are inaccurate or unwanted.
To safeguard your privacy, you will also likely have the ability to quickly and easily deactivate Bard’s Memory feature by using a toggle located on the left side of the screen. This is expected to make it easier to initiate conversations that do not rely on past interactions, perhaps for showcasing Bard to a friend or discussing topics you would rather the chatbot not remember for future interactions.
