Google apes Bing, adds colour to the Google Search home page
Google has been experimenting with subtle changes in its search engine look for a while now, and has now decided to go Microsoft Bing’s way of putting up high-res pictures as the wallpapers to your main search screen. This will apparently add “a whole new level of personalization to Google”, simply by enabling users to “add a favourite photo or image”, choosing from the files on their computer, their Picasa Web Album, or from a free Picasa image bank.
Those of you who are really excited by this escape from the drab white of Google, will still have to wait a little while, as the new feature will start first in the US in the next couple of days, before being rolled out to the rest of the world. And those of you who still want to see the boring old home screen, can switch simply between the classic Google and the customized search page. Users will also be able to share and tweet out customized home screens they like, with the hashtag #myGooglepage.
