Google's January security update delivers fixes to nearly 95 vulnerabilities
Google has started rolling out a security patch for the month of January. Google says the January security patch offers fixes for 95 vulnerabilities and the OTA update is available for Google Pixel and Nexus devices.
Google has rolled out monthly security updates to patch security bugs faster than before. The 95 vulnerabilities listed on Android security bulletin range from being moderate to critical. The update brings fix to a critical security vulnerability that could enable remote code execution on affected devices. The remote code execution can be triggered via methods such as email, web browsing and MMS.
Google is making the January update available in two different patch levels to offer Android OEMs with flexibility. All Google devices including Pixel and Nexus devices will get the latest security patch with complete fixes, while OEMs will release updates with fixes to their own subset of vulnerabilities.
While most users should get the update in the form of an OTA update, Google is also releasing factory images for Pixel and Nexus devices to flash or sideload them. Lately, Google Pixel owners have reported issues with their devices like audio distortion and battery concern. It is not very clear whether these patch updates also address these issues but Google seems committed to timely updates.
