Google has made an acquisition this week of the Computer vision startup, AIMatter. AIMatter is the creator of Fabby computer vision image editor app which has received a good response on the Google Play store.
AIMatter is a startup based out of Belarus. It employs neural networks, computer vision and Deep Learning in its Fabby app to provide high level of customisation and better control over editing of images. There is no news regarding the particulars of the deal between Google and AIMatter as of yet. A Google spokesperson provided a short statement to TechCrunch, “We are excited to welcome the AIMatter team to Google.”
The Fabby app, a product and proof of concept of AIMatter’s machine vision tech has not been pulled from the Play Store. AIMatter was founded back in 2016 and acquired a $2M of funding by a private backer Haxus.
Prisma is an app similar to Fabby, which utilises algorithms to ‘touch-up’ images. Prisma has not been acquired yet, however, rumours of Facebook and Snapchat being interested are out and about. There have been a flurry of acquisitions in the area of Artificial Intelligence and its sub-fields lately, be it computer vision for enhancing images using apps or be it deep learning to understand patterns in data sets to best Dota players.
